West Area Representative Candidates
Michelle Lamons
Michelle Lamons is a living example of a “change agent.” In 2008, she changed the trajectory of her life by earning her GED and embarked on a journey where she would thrive on meeting challenges through the lens of careful and critical thinking, which served her well as she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Over the past decade, Michelle Lamons has continued to serve at Amarillo College (AC), which The Aspen Institute recently recognized as one of the top five community colleges in the U.S. She is the Project Director for AC’s Adult Education Program known as Career Ready You. Never forgetting her humble beginnings, Michelle remains a change agent to implement systems to assist non-traditional students along pathways to earn a GED or acquire English as a Second Language to help them reach the goal of up-skilling for an in-demand occupation that leads into a middle-skilled career. More recently, this activity has come through her overseeing a Texas Workforce Commission grant upon which The Texas Peer Mentor Network was created. Through the Network’s partnerships with AEL programs at colleges and educational service centers across the state, she has held a key position in spearheading professional learning opportunities to support robust career pathways models through meaningful systematic integration of programs. Currently, Michelle finds joy in working with Amarillo College’s Higher Education Learning Network (HELN) to create on-demand professional learning opportunities centered around accelerated learning models.
In her spare time, Ms. Lamons’ “side hustle” is working alongside her amazing husband in the real estate industry to be change agents and create legacies for their three beautiful children.
